Giving It Another Try

I think that hospitals should start a program where you can earn points towards a vacation for every time you walk through their doors...we'd be racking up days on some beach in Hawaii by now. Just a thought:-) Anyway, it's been a few days since our last post so here's a quick run down of what's been going on in our small corner of the world...

On our last post we talked about how Lincoln was taken off the nasal cannula to see how well he could do at breathing on his own. The next morning (Jan. 6th) we called his nurse to check on him and found out that he had to go back on the cannula. I guess he wasn't quite ready...but come on now Lincoln... 1/2 a liter of oxygen, is that really necessary? That's like standing on the edge of the diving board and being nervous to jump in the pool because you think it's going to be too cold. I say just go for it! Well, today he went for it...and so far his third try at breathing completely on his own is going pretty good! With all of the energy he's been spending on breathing and well, doing other things (hint: stuff that requires a little wipe and an some occasional cream) he's been losing a little weight. As of last night, Lincoln weighs 4lbs 10 oz.Nothing to worry about though...keep in mind we're talking about grams and ounces. A little fluctuation in weight is to be expected. He's definitely been working hard at the whole "growing up" thing and April and I are proud of how well he's been doing.

Other than that, things are still going just about the same. We're still sorta struggling to find a manageable routine. It's becoming a normal occurrence to feel a little exhausted, and yes, I can hear all of you parents saying "Welcome to the club" It's worth every bit of energy, time, and minute of lost sleep though. It really only takes a second of looking at Lincoln, holding him close, or even changing his diaper to realize that it's all worth it. We're so thankful that has God blessed us with this little boy. With all of the times that I've spend babbling on this blog over the last month, It's hard to find the exact words to describe how April and I feel...knowing that God has given us such an awesome gift. We can't wait until he's big enough to meet all of you.
